Some kids live on peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Without it, some may not have survived. In elementary school, students who forgot their lunch money received a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for lunch, which I always considered to be a threat. Jelly was the thing that could ruin my peanut butter sandwich. No, thank you. And grape jelly?!? I still can’t quite understand that one.
Or maybe that was just what I told my parents so they would allow me to add some marshmallow to my sandwiches…
As an adult, I finally enjoy some fresh raspberry jelly- but I am so glad I didn’t eat jelly as a child. Otherwise, I may never know the joy of creamy peanut butter layered with sweet and sticky marshmallow fluff. And that is a match made in heaven!
Fluffernutter refers to a peanut butter and marshmallow sandwich, typically made with white bread. Maybe not the healthiest meal, but a childhood staple and a great alternative for kids who do not like jelly.
The PB & M sandwich was first created in the early 1900s; however, the term was not used until 1960. An advertising agency created the name as a way to market the sweet sandwich. Also, marshmallow creme is sometimes referred to as fluff.
