Move over pumpkin spice latter season, it's apple season!
Originally, I began to make this recipe into a pie. But then, I realized that I forgot that I actually prefer apple crisp. Like I love it so much I even have a 10-minute version!
I mean, really...who needs a crust when streusel is involved?!? First, fruit crisp is very easy to make gluten free! Simply use gluten free oats and flour. Then, each serving has more apple filling than a slice of pie- AKA the good stuff! And honestly, making an apple pie with a top and bottom crust just seems like way too much crust! Plus, streusel adds a buttery sweetness to spiced apples!
Warm and cozy- this dish would be perfect for Thanksgiving dessert!
And, a lot of recipes call for up to 1 cup of sugar to be added to the apples. Why, oh why?!? This step is unnecessary as apples are already sweet!
Incredibly delicious on its own, but if you want to kick it up a notch!
First made in Germany, streusel is a crumbly topping used in baking. The basic ingredients are butter, sugar, and flour. Today, you may also see oats, brown sugar, ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon, and other nuts and spices!
A mix of tart and sweet, crunchy apples will lead to the best baked dish, with a greater depth of flavor.
Really, you could go either way! I often peel, but leaving the skin keeps more nutrients in the dish.
With gooey cinnamon apples and a buttery, gingery cookie crumble- this gluten free ginger snap apple crisp will become your new fall dessert classic!
