You've probably heard of cannoli dip. Who hasn't??? If you haven't spotted it in a grocery store, then you've come across the plethora of recipes on the internet. Or you couldn't stay away from the bowl at your last potluck. With slight variations, I am sure they are all delicious!
Like most of my dips, I began with cream cheese. Savory or sweet- it makes a terrific base. I settled on a combination of cream cheese and ricotta. For a more authentic cannoli flavor, feel free to stick with only ricotta. Instead of chocolate chips, I added some lime juice and lime zest for an upgraded summertime feel.
Creating your own tortilla chips is also super simple. Brush will oil, add some spices, and bake. This sweet variation only requires 3 ingredients. You could also use flour or whole wheat tortillas. Or dust with some powdered sugar.
No need to spend $10 at the grocery store! (Actually I believe a local store charges $18 for a smaller tray of cannoli chips and dip...*cough *cough Wegmans.) Custom-created means you can make it your own, which is even better.
Traditionally, ricotta is used to create the creamy filling inside a cannoli. It's sweetened and there's a hint of a citrus flavor. Today, recipes can also call for cream cheese and/or mascarpone.
What could you do with only 5 minutes and 8 simple ingredients?!?! Make this key lime cannoli dip! Serve with gluten free baked tortilla chips for a sweet snack everyone will love!
