Holiday season is the perfect time of year for appetizers- AKA, finger foods, or starters. They tend to be quicker to prepare, cuter, and more fun to eat!
Appetizer = delicious, bite-sized food
In American restaurants, most appetizers are deep-fried in oil, with little nutritional content. But, these babies are packed with protein and fiber! A pear has up to 6 grams of fiber and are naturally fat-free. But, don't worry- we'll fix that with some bacon!
This appetizer is super simple! Seriously...just 2 ingredients and as much time as it takes you to crisp up some bacon. But, not too crisp, we're going to wrap bacon around the pears while the bacon is still warm and has a bit of flexibility. Secure with a toothpick and ta da! The tastiest 2-ingredient appetizer you ever did see!!!
This recipe is very versatile! The pears can be cooked or raw. You can wrap pear slices with bacon and then broil. You can crumble the bacon into bits and sprinkle over pears with a drizzle of caramel sauce. Or you can simply place small pieces of bacon on top of pear slices. Not all forms are equally beautiful, but all are delish!
Technically, peak pear season is August through October, so we're a little outside of that window- but that's ok! It's a great way to use up that box of Harry & David pears from Aunt Sally. Super simple. Minimal ingredients. Salty. Sweet. Plus, these bites are paleo, gluten free, and dairy free. Thank you, Aunt Sally!
Oh, and everything is better with bacon! (duh!)
If bacon is not your jam, there are many delicious toppings for pears!
Pear and bacon bites didn't quite make the cut, but someday I hope they will!
With that magical combo of salty and sweet, these pear and bacon bites make the perfect appetizer! Big on flavor, small in size!
