Summertime is here and the living is easy!
Ok, not really... Who came up with that saying?!?
It's still crazy-busy, plus now the kids have Basketball Camp, vacation bible school, band camp, tennis practice, and piano lessons. And yet, somehow they still complain about being bored... Plus, there's a trip to the beach and the in-laws are visiting for a week!
Time for a super simple and refreshing summer cocktail! With a sweet strawberry flavor and then a bit of unexpected basil, it's a fun twist on a classic margarita. The flavors pair together so beautifully to create this easy, thirst-quenching drink! And while I LOVE a good margarita, some are way too sweet! After a few sips, I'm usually finished. Plus, they can boast a large number of calories. So unnecessary! Let's save our calories for that lemon cream pie or strawberry shortcake!
A classic margarita typically features tequila, lime juice, and Triple Sec, which is an orange flavored liquor. It's basically citrus-flavored sugar. And some restaurants use sweet and sour mix or a simple syrup to sweeten the cocktail. I prefer to simply use orange juice. Less calories, less sugar, and maybe even a few nutrients! If you prefer a bit sweeter, you can also add a little honey, sugar, or agave- but, I don't think you'll need it!
Ready in just 5 minutes- what are you waiting for?!?
A classic margarita is a cocktail featuring tequila, Triple Sec, and lime juice. Often served with a salted rim, they can be straight up (no ice), on the rocks (with ice), or blended (liquid and ice blended together.) Today, you can find a wide variety of fruit flavors- mango, strawberry, peach, raspberry, grapefruit, cherry, watermelon, pineapple, coconut, or even spicy jalapeno.
Of course! You can easily turn this cocktail into a mocktail. Simply omit the tequila and add more lemon seltzer, lime seltzer, Lemon-lime soda, or club soda.
For a fun summer cocktail without all of the calories, this skinny strawberry basil margarita is perfect for a warm summer evening on the patio!
